Originally built in 589 A.D. during the Sui Dynasty and first named Wulou Temple, Da Ci’en Temple has stood as a symbol of Buddhist culture and history. Though it declined after the Tang Dynasty, the surviving halls and structures seen today were rebuilt during the Ming Dynasty.
During the Tang Dynasty, the temple gained prominence when the imperial court established a chamber for the translation of Buddhist scriptures. The revered Master Xuanzang (Monk Tripitaka) was appointed as its head, dedicating his life to translating and spreading Buddhist teachings, leaving an enduring spiritual and cultural legacy.
